Essential Candle Safety Measures
To ensure a beautiful, clean burn and to prevent fire or personal injury, please follow these standard safety instructions carefully:
Before Burning
- Trim the Wick: Always trim the candle wick to 1/4 inch (approx. 6mm) before every single burn. This prevents large, flickering flames, tunneling, and excess soot.
- Check the Surface: Place your candle on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface. Avoid glass or delicate wooden furniture that can be damaged by heat transfer.
- Clear the Area: Keep the wax pool completely free of wick trimmings, matches, debris, or dust.
- Avoid Drafts: Keep burning candles away from open windows, ceiling fans, air currents, or vents to ensure an even burn and prevent sudden flare-ups.
While Burning
- Never Leave Unattended: Always keep a burning candle within your sight. Extinguish all candles when leaving a room or going to sleep.
- Keep Out of Reach: Never burn candles near children, pets, or anyone unable to safely handle them.
- The 4-Hour Rule: Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Burning for too long can cause the jar to overheat and crack.
- The First Burn Matters: When lighting your candle for the first time, let it burn until the liquid wax pool reaches all the edges of the jar. This prevents "tunneling" and ensures you get the maximum life out of your candle.
- Watch for Proximity: Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire (e.g., curtains, bedding, carpets, books, or loose clothing).
After Burning & Extinguishing
- Do Not Use Water: Never use water to extinguish a candle, as this can cause hot wax to splatter or break the glass container. Use a candle snuffer or gently blow it out.
- Do Not Touch or Move: Wait until the wax has completely cooled and solidified before moving, touching, or capping the candle jar. Glass containers get extremely hot during use.
- Know When to Say Goodbye: Discontinue use when only 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the container. Burning a candle past this point can dangerously overheat the base of the jar.
